Living With Windows Vista x64

So, I did a stupid thing two Mondays ago, for no good reason I decided to flash the BIOS of my motherboard, the flashing went bad, and my motherboard was dead, manufacturer will fix the motherboard for free, but I will be without a computer at home for 3 to 4 weeks.  That's just not going to happen, so I bought a new motherboard from Fry's and was up and running by Wednesday night.

Windows Vista has had a pretty bad rep ever since it debuted nearly two years ago, everything from software incompatibilities, to driver faults, heavy resource usage, and slow performance.  As a result, Vista's has a low adoption rate, with people opting to rollback to XP, Microsoft's losing market share, tarnished it's reputation, and became the number one whipping boy of the tech world.  But, is it justified?  It's been almost two year, Service Pack 1 is out, all major compatibility issue have been resolved, software and hardware wise.  Is it all reality or just perception brought on by clever Apple marketing and poor journalism?  Is it finally Vista time?

It is common practice to refromat your hard drive, as in erase everything and install the OS from scratch after a major upgrade, such as replacing the motherboard.  So, I've decided to take the plunge and instead of installing trusty ol'XP, I will be installing Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Edition.  I will be using Vista daily for everything I did before, including work, gaming, and general internet shenanigans.  And, in time, we shall know the truth about Vista, or at least form an informed opinion on it that's not based on group think, clever marketing, nor internet hoopla, but on hands-on experience.

I feel sad and sorry for this increasing God less world, where did all this hate, denial, and ignorance come from?

One of my coworkers uses "Jesus" way too much in really absurd contexts.  Maybe I'm being too sensitive, but sometimes I just want to reach over and slap him up side the head, or just tell him to shut &!#$ up.  I know I'm on luke warm grounds with God, but, man, it still bothers me so.

I'm like bipolar with the swearing, sailor impersonator in some entries, self censurer in others.  Sometimes I really piss myself off.

Cha-Ching!!!

Checked my bank account online and found myself $600 richer!  My economic stimulus package money came through today.  Thanks GW and Congress!

Can't decide what I should do with the money, use it as it was intended (spend it), or hamster it away like a good practical Asian person.  A Canon Rebel XSI is mighty sweet, but alittle bump to my six-months rainy day fund is nice as well...  What to do, what to do?

Philippine surgeons cheer after removing a 6 inch body spray canister from drunk patient's rectum

[QUOTE]

A video posted on the internet showing Philippine doctors laughing while removing an object from a patient may lead to charges against the surgeons and cost them their medical licenses, officials said Wednesday.

The nearly 3-minute video of a noisy operating room shows doctors and nurses laughing, giggling and cheering.

At one point, a hand appears with a cell phone camera taking a close-up picture of the surgery.

As a doctor gingerly pulls out the 6-inch long canister from the male patient's rectum, someone shouts, "Baby out!" amid loud cheers.

The doctor then removes the canister cap and sprays the contents toward the crowd of nurses and doctors viewing the procedure.

The video has angered the unidentified patient who plans to press charges, his lawyer Guiller Ceniza said Wednesday.

Obama Won't Wear the American Flag Pin

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/DemocraticDebate/Story?id=4670271&page=2

[QUOTE]

GIBSON: And, Senator Obama, I want to do one more question, which goes to the basic issue of electability. And it is a question raised by a voter in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, a woman by the name of Nash McCabe. Take a look.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

NASH MCCABE, VOTER: Senator Obama, I have a question, and I want to know if you believe in the American flag. I am not questioning your patriotism, but all our servicemen, policemen and EMS wear the flag. I want to know why you don't.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GIBSON: Just to add to that, I noticed you put one on yesterday. But you've talked about this before, but it comes up again and again when we talk to voters. And, as you may know, it is all over the Internet.

And it's something of a theme that Senators Clinton and McCain's advisers agree could give you a major vulnerability if you're the candidate in November.

How do you convince Democrats that this would not be a vulnerability?

OBAMA: Well, look, I revere the American flag. And I would not be running for president if I did not revere this country.

This is -- I would not be standing here if it wasn't for this country. And I've said this -- again, there's no other country in which my story is even possible. Somebody who was born to a teenage mom, raised by a single mother and grandparents from small towns in Kansas, you know, who was able to get an education and rise to the point where I can run for the highest office in the land, I could not help but love this country for all that it's given me.

And so, what I've tried to do is to show my patriotism by how I treat veterans when I'm working in the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee; by making sure that I'm speaking forcefully about how we need to bring this war in Iraq to a close, because I think it is not serving our national security well and it's not serving our military families and our troops well; talking about how we need to restore a sense of economic fairness to this country, because that's what this country has always been about, is providing upward mobility and ladders to opportunity for all Americans.

That's what I love about this country. And so I will continue to fight for those issues.

And I am absolutely confident that during the general election, that when I'm in a debate with John McCain, people are not going to be questioning my patriotism; they are going to be questioning, how can you make people's lives a little bit better?

And let me just make one last point on this issue of the flag pin. As you've noted, I wore one yesterday when a veteran handed it to me, who himself was disabled and works on behalf of disabled veterans.

I have never said that I don't wear flag pins or refuse to wear flag pins. This is the kind of manufactured issue that our politics has become obsessed with and, once again, distracts us from what should be my job when I'm commander-in-chief, which is going to be figuring out how we get our troops out of Iraq and how we actually make our economy better for the American people.

[END QUOTE]

Just wear the damn pin, dude.  You might have your reasons, and they might be just, but everyone's going to think you're some elitest liberal, oh, wait, a lot do already.  I would vote for you if I could, but you're making it harder and harder everyday.
